Near 70 municipalities use the Urban Management Technology Services Platform, which contains, stores and publishes the information generated by cities via sensors, actuators and various vertical information systems installed in the cities: mobility, energy efficiency, parks and gardens, cleaning, etc. This makes municipal services more efficient and sustainable while innovating in utilities and applications for the public. The Urban Management Technology Services Platform is designed to work across the board with all areas of an organisation in order to share information between various systems: it is multi-city, open and interoperable, and allows various municipal urban management devices and systems to be connected. Besides using it within their municipal territory, municipalities can use this platform to share data between them for working and collaborating on regional projects, such as mobility projects. Built on open source code, the platform has been created in a collaborative way by an active and diverse community of cities and companies. Municipalities allow knowledge to be shared by using a single technology, and this facilitates the implementation of common technology solutions for projects to be copied elsewhere. By participating in working communities, Barcelona Provincial Council coordinates smart projects and fosters inter-municipality partnerships. The Urban Management Technology Services Platform uses Sentilo software for its basic IoT (Internet of Things) platform, a platform of sensors and actuators that was developed by Barcelona City Council in 2013. Barcelona City Council distributed this platform as open source code for use by any city or organisation. Barcelona Provincial Council, the main goal of which is to provide support to the municipalities within the territory of Barcelona, transformed this city platform into a multi-city regional platform to serve those municipalities wishing to use it. The platform is provided in SaaS (Software as a Service) format to local councils. Thanks to this development by Barcelona Provincial Council, other regional authorities are already providing these services to their respective municipalities. MORE INFORMATION
